A member of the Maine Farm Vacation B&B Association

Welcome to Bass Cove Farm B&B. Sorrento, one of Maine's best-kept secrets, occupies a small peninsula 3 miles long and 2 miles wide. It is home to about 200 year-round residents and an active summer colony. The influence of the sea is unmistakable: the smell of sea air, the seabreeze refreshing us on a warm summer day. Come up the path, under the vine-covered arbor and through the flower garden, and enter our home for a special Downeast Maine visit.

Our B&B

Accommodations

Two of our three bedrooms have a view, through the trees, of Bass Cove, which can also be seen from the breakfast room. There are quilts on the beds and rag or hooked rugs on the floors; needlework and pottery decorate the rooms. Two first-floor rooms have queen-sized beds (shared or private bath), and the second-floor suite has double and twin beds, a living room, a private bath and a kitchen. We are a smoke-free home. Please choose this link to see one of our well-appointed, charming bedrooms.
In our
1840s farmhouse
we serve a full breakfast that has been
described as
..."memorable" & "worth getting out of that
very comfortable bed to enjoy."

After breakfast, guests may decide to relax in the common rooms or on the porch; browse through the books in the library; explore our flower and vegetable gardens; or head out to explore Downeast Maine.
Local Color

Environment

Sorrento's harbor, shared by fishing boats and pleasure craft, is 2 miles away. Explore its shore on foot or by canoe or kayak.

The three sections of Acadia National Park offer four-season recreation: nearby Schoodic Point, wild and undeveloped, with biking and hiking trails and spectacular sunsets; the main section (near Bar Harbor) with opportunities for the novice to the most advanced explorer; Isle au Haute(via mailboat), remote island culture. Visit diverse ecosystems: salt marshes, rocky coast, mountains, rivers and ponds.

Culture

Local artists and craftspeople welcome visitors to their studios. Attend a concert or opera at the world famous Pierre Monteux Music School for orchestra conductors; listen to folk music or jazz at an area club or coffeehouse.

For real DOWNEAST flavor, don't miss a church supper or a country fair or festival. Flea markets, antique shops, art & craft galleries, restaurants (home-cooking & haute cuisine) are found throughout the area.

History

Many communities have historical societies or museums. Visit lighthouses, a Victorian mansion, sites of revolutionary war battles, homes of lumber or blueberry barons, sites of early Indian settlements and the summer "cottages" of early rusticators.
Your Hosts

Mary Ann does editorial work in her "electronic cottage." She is also a fiber craftsperson (spinning, weaving, crocheting, knitting), writer and herb & flower gardener. Mike is a group-home counselor, photographer and a two-time "Harry S. Truman Manure Pitchoff" Champion at Maine's Common Ground Country Fair.

Pets and Children

Our pets (2) prefer that you arrange a separate vacation for your pets but we will consider requests for lodging on an individual basis. And we all enjoy the company of well-supervised children.
